Background:
Opened in 1964, the school has four teaching rooms, a library, a large hall, staffroom, an office and a school kitchen which serves hot lunches. The grounds offer a 'large' hard playing surface, 'extensive' playing fields and a pond. There are 'good' home-school links and the friends of English Martyrs association is open to all parents, teachers and members of St Joseph's Parish, with which the school has 'strong' connections. The association has organised events such as race nights, discos, barbecues, fairs, and prize draws to raise money for school equipment and facilities. The school's mission document states: 'Through the example of Jesus and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, we will help and encourage all our children to achieve their potential and to lead happy and fulfilled lives.' The school also holds fund-raising events for a variety of charities.
