Background:
The school opened in 1920 and is located in an idyllic setting overlooking the Welland Valley. It serves the rural town of Uppingham and the surrounding area. In recent years two major building programmes have created additional capacity completing in January 2002. Music, drama and sport are 'extremely strong'. One in 10 pupils learn a musical instrument to Grade 8 and there is a senior orchestra, junior orchestra, recorder consort, concert band, string quartet, big band and seven rock groups. Sports include football, rugby, basketball, hockey, rounders, netball, cross-country, cricket and volleyball, and the school has representatives at county, regional and international level.
