Background:

Opened in 1973, this small rural school is set on the edge of an 'attractive' village in Rutland. It serves children from an area of mixed housing in Empingham and many from villages lying outside the traditional catchment area. The curriculum is broadened with educational visits, either within the immediate locality or further afield. Pupils can participate in inter-school matches in football, netball, rounders, cricket, swimming and athletics. They can also learn to play the recorder, violin, guitar and flute. Children are encouraged to support a variety of local and national charities during the school year. There is a 'strong, supportive' parents and friends association which organises social events as well as raising funds for the school.
